Lily 'Montego Bay'
Lily 'Montego Bay'
The colours of this lily’s flowers conjure up a mental image of sunset over the coastline of Lily 'Montego Bay', its Jamaican city namesake! A tall lily, at 140-155cm in height, it produces large and very fragrant trumpet blooms of salmon pink, with a blush of flame orange, and with yellow throats and burgundy red spots. Lily 'Montego Bay' is a good choice for borders and growing en masse. It looks its absolute best from mid- to late summer. Narrow, glossy green leaves remain the same colour throughout the season. The flowers are excellent for cutting, too.
Lilium 'Montego Bay' is one of an exciting new class of Lilium, known as the oriental × trumpet lilies, often seen as orienpets. Their large blooms carry the perfume of the oriental lily, with the strong growth habit of the trumpet lily. They are all hardy, and highly suited to the British climate. Lilium 'Montego Bay' is best grown in a sheltered garden, or out of strong wind.
